I think this was a solid three-star read for me. The second half was way better than the first half, but I still need to rate/review based on my feelings of the entire book. Unfortunately, the pacing and action of the latter section wasn't enough to wipe out how discouraged and bored I had felt at the beginning. I still think it would be been more interesting to just focus on the 1800s time period rather than have a dual narrative, and the insta-love between Ezra and Hester was a little too much to swallow, but I liked the story behind the ghosts/mermaids, and the paranormal thriller scene was done really well.
