Skinny

Skinny - Donna Cooner I started out fascinated by this book. I loved the beginning, and I loved the way Skinny was described in Ever’s head, always mocking her. I was glad to see a main character that actually has to deal with something–authors always shy away from overweight characters, especially main characters. And if the character “feels” overweight, usually they have absolutely no reason to at all, and those of us who weigh more than a size eight are left to feel even more pathetic. But this actually brought it into the spotlight, made things so much clearer, and in a weird way, it was inspiring. However, I feel like it fell short on everything else; characters, relationships, actual plot. Ever got on my nerves, and so did basically everyone except her step-sister, Briella. The book tried so hard for a lot of different things, but all I wanted to focus on what the inspiration of losing weight and feeling good–but that message was lost underneath everything else.An ARC of this book was provided by my supervisor at the public library.Read more?http://thaliasbooks.tumblr.com/post/29867291808/skinny-review(PS, the girl on the cover actually looks pretty skinny to me.
