Beasts and BFFs (Review)

Beasts and BFF's (13 to Life, #0.5) - Shannon Delany

Because this is only a prequel, there won’t be a “full” review for this.

I don’t usually like prequels, especially when I haven’t read the first book. Still, I feel compelled to read them because it chronologically comes before the first book, and…yeah. It’s an addiction of a kind, although it usually results in a low rating. But this one? This was actually good. I was given a taste of Delany’s writing (which is great!), and a little introduction to the characters and I really enjoyed that. It was pretty plotless, as far as things go, but I already have inklings about what might happen, what I hope will happen, etc, and that’s…kind of exciting, actually. This short little prequel succeeded in getting me excited to read the first book in the series, which is exactly what it should do, and I might just bump this one higher up on my to-read list. (Even if the title to this prequel is a little ridiculous…)

So, this was a pleasant surprise! I don’t usually enjoy prequels at all, and don’t feel like they give me enough to go on to actually feel excited about a book, but this one exceeded my expectations. It felt about as good as a prequel could possibly get, and it feels good to say that. Definitely read it if you’re planning on reading 13 to Life.
