When I see another reviewer claiming that a self-published author is doing the world a favor by publishing independently (for our enjoyment!) and that editing really is just polish, and that without it even Sylvia Day probably can't spell, and it's been proven we can read past the errors, and that lack of editing is such a tired complaint...

You are not an avid reader. Don't say that. If you don't care about the written word, then you cannot be an avid reader. It's not possible.
